Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
How does it happen?
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. The causes of PTSD are multifactorial and complex, but some of the most common causes include:
Experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, such as combat, natural disasters, or physical/sexual assault.
Childhood trauma, such as abuse, neglect, or witnessing domestic violence.
Having a history of mental health conditions, including anxiety or depression.
Lack of social support post-trauma.
Symptoms of PTSD
The symptoms of PTSD can vary from person to person but generally fall into four main categories:
1. Intrusive Symptoms:
Flashbacks or nightmares reliving the traumatic event.
Intrusive and distressing thoughts, memories, or images.
2. Avoidance Symptoms:
Avoiding activities, places, or people that remind them of the trauma.
Emotional numbing and detachment.
3. Negative Alterations in Mood and Cognition
Persistent negative beliefs or expectations about oneself or the world.
Difficulty concentrating or remembering.
4. Arousal and Reactivity Symptoms:
